“if my people who are called by my name humble themselves, and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land.”
As I read this verse again, each phrase brings anew an understanding of our deficiency in our approach toward God. Are we humbled? Do we pray? Are we seeking His face? Have we turned from our wicked ways?

Prayer and humility are essential themes to link. It takes courage to openly depend on God, to move away from self-reliance and to express our neediness for His grace.
But that attitude is something that God rewards. If we consider His rightful supremacy, then we are blessed when we acknowledge it. Is it not true: “God opposes the proud, but gives grace to the humble.”
We often hate to pray because of laziness or discomfort. But if we can humble ourselves to recognize God’s greatness over our smallness through prayer, He desires to raise us up from weakness.
This is God’s ultimate story of redeeming human history: the glorification of His goodness. It sounds selfish and nihilistic to us, but the truth is, if we truly believed how amazing and good He is, giving God all the space He needs would be the only logical behavior.
